Wish For Rain

Lyrics/Music: Don de Leaumont

A Friday afternoon, summer in the deepest part of South.

The grime on my neck, has been there for days.

Collect another day of pay.  Got enough to get myself a beer.

Pull my hat over my face, & dream away my tears.

Chorus:     I left it all behind in the corner of my mind.

Along with all my dreams of riding trains.

The sun has been so cruel as I work away my tools.

Tonight I’ll go to sleep, & wish for rain.

My dreams take me away.  To a place where it aint so hot.

A white sandy beach, where the water’s blue.

I could’ve had the good life.  Somehow I let it get away.

It rode away in a truck, with the girl of my dreams.

Chorus:     I left it all behind in the corner of my mind.

Along with all my dreams of riding trains.

The sun has been so cruel as I work away my tools.

Tonight I’ll go to sleep, & wish for rain.

The man has called us back to work.

My dream it disappears into the sun.

The sun is hotter now; it cooks the clay to my neck.

I hear a train whistle blow.

I hear it calling out my name.

Drop my tools, I gotta go.

Can’t let this one get away…

Chorus:     I reached far behind in the corner of my mind.

And captured all my dreams of riding trains.

          Where I’m going I don’t care

This train goes to who knows where….

Tonight I’ll sleep, and for once, won’t wish for rain.
