Understand

Lyrics/Music: Don de Leaumont

If I had a penny for every time, you tried to save my soul.

I would save them in a water jug, to pass the time I’d count it out as I grow old.

Even though you try to understand, I can see the pain in your eyes.

To watch me, not believe, in all those lies.

How can you place your faith, in the word of a god that fails?

Start the day with 50 cent prayers, and go to bed with 10 dollar fairy tales.

When I was young you used to say to me, if you seek so shall you find.

But this path you’re on, just can’t be, a path of mine.

For a god who supposed to love so much.  They sure do preach a word of hate.

Who can love who, and marry who.  I sit and watch as the church rules the state.

This is not the way for me, this isn’t something I can do.

So try and understand me, and I will try, to understand you.
