Irony & The Broke Folk Singer

Music/Lyrics: Don de Leaumont

Sit back & listen to me, sing a song about irony

I just tell it like it is from me to you.

I write soundtracks for the coffee drinker, the beat poet, and the college thinkers.

And the stoners who ran out of things to do…

I was sitting home one find day and decided I would find a way,

To write a song that sounded like my others.

Not all of them go this way, some of them just go astray.

And some come out as ugly as my brother…

I left the folk gig Thursday night, I was feeling just alright.

Passing by theater, I heard a song.

I said this guy sounds just like me, broke as hell with no pot to pee

But soon I’d be proven very wrong…

While he was singin’ bout being lost, & being broke I see his tickets cost.

22 dollars for a head.

Aint it hard to broke & sad with all this money to be had

Even has a tour bus, shit can’t be that bad…

Now I can sing about being broke, my cars on empty and it still chokes

Can barely carry me, for a load.

I played for free tonight you see, even had to pay  for my coffee.

& don’t have enough for a refill for the road….

Man, now that’s broke!!!

I bet you’ve heard songs like this, you can call it hit or miss.

Might sound just like Bob Dylan or Todd Snyder

Similar chords, similar change, similar nasal vocal range

And I just might try to play this here harminiker…

So when I make a million dollars, I promise that I will not hallar

Bout being broke and complain about my hits!

I’ll play my songs and make em rhyme and even try to play in time

And if I don’t you can give me some…. Hard times!!!!

Hey Hey my my, rock & roll will never die

Just hang your hair down in yer eyes and you’ll make a million dollars!!!!
