A Letter Home
Music/Lyrics: Don de Leaumont
My throat feels dry as the desert heat with nothing to get me by.
You nurse my wounds & dress them, & lay me out to dry.
The killing machine beside my cot, has seen many frightened eyes…
Oh angel of the war please kiss me, before I go…
Spent 30 days in the forest, looking for the tracks.
The hounds of hell are on my trail, there aint no turning back.
The shackles of another man are slowing down the race…
If they catch me I’ll be staring death right in the face…
Why do I run from a man that I don’t know?
A picture of my little girl, in my helmet band..
Keeps me sane while belly down & face down in the sand.
The shots ring out like thunder, my eyes they close in fear.
A billion miles away from home asking “why am I here?”
Daddy’s gonna be home soon then it’s time to play…
A letter home to my dear wife, a letter to mom & pop.
Please lift my head to feed to me, water by the drop.
The boots that marched me through, these burial grounds alone…
Sit beside this metal cot, now they have no home…
Mom & pop can’t wait to get back home….
I can’t wait to get, back, home….
